Flow equation for Halpern-Huang directions of scalar O(N) models

A class of asymptotically free scalar theories with O(N) symmetry, defined via the eigenpotentials of the Gaussian fixed point (Halpern-Huang directions), are investigated using renormalization group flow equations. Explicit solutions for the form of the potential in the nonperturbative infrared domain are found in the large-N limit. In this limit, potentials without symmetry breaking essential...

Halpern-Huang directions in effective scalar field theory

Halpern and Huang recently showed that there are relevant directions in the space of interactions at the Gaussian fixed point. I show that their result can be derived from Polchinski's form of the Wilson renormalization group. The derivation shows that the existence of these directions is independent of the cutoff function used.

Conditional belief types Report Title We study type spaces where a player's type at a state is a conditional probability on the space. We axiomatize these spaces using conditional belief operators, examining three additional axioms of increasing strength. First, introspection, which requires the agent to be unconditionally certain of her beliefs. Second, echo, according to which the uncondition...

Cardinal directions for visual optic flow

As we move through our environment, the flow of deforming images on the retinae provides a rich source of information about the three-dimensional structure of the external world and how to navigate through it. Recent evidence from psychophysical [1] [2] [3] [4], electrophysiological [5] [6] [7] [8] [9] and imaging [10] [11] studies suggests that there are neurons in the primate visual system - ...
